Pub Tokens

The brief

Pub Tokens offer a gift voucher that can be redeemed across numerous pubs and restaurants across the UK. Operating for over 11 years, they have partnered with some of the best pub and restaurant operators in the country with over 1,750 venues accepting their vouchers. Pub Tokens reached out to Digital Storm looking for a total website overhaul. This was inspired by their current Magenta CMS becoming out of date and no longer supported but it was a good change to modernise the brand’s online image and introduce some digital enhancements both for the management team and for the customers.

Our response

The website had a lot of specific functionality requirements such as integration with systems like Loquate, Mailchimp along with custom API development and integration to allow the website to communicate with the fulfillment company. It was also a requirement that the website is easier to manage than what they had previously despite adding a lot more content. We, therefore, achieved this by developing custom Gutenberg blocks and designed the site appropriate to this method with intentionally repeated sections of content such as call-to-actions.

We also incorporated find and replace functionality, advanced search & filtering and page cloning features into the website’s CMS.

The website’s design was intended to enhance the Pub Tokens brand over the previous, dated web presence. The main focus, however, was on the UX with lots of call-to-action and feeds of content that helps to guide users towards the products and venue finder areas of the website.

Results

The website launched in October of 2020, 4 months after commencement which was a short turnaround that we were proud to achieve for Pub Tokens despite the Covid-19 Lockdown being in place throughout the project. Search engine optimisation was another of the projects focuses, the site was incorporated with industry-leading on-site optimisation tools for the client to engage with along with the development adhering to technical on-site ranking factors and page speed being minimised through next-generation image formats (Webp & SVG) along with appropriate hosting requirements.

Following the launch of the new Pub Tokens website, we have continued to support the brand with email templates for marketing and updated gift wallet visuals, along with taking on their newest project: The Pub and Restaurant Gift Card Store. This was a second website and new brand that needed to be developed to sell a larger selection of gift cards, this second website will be launching in late November 2020.

Digital Storm has produced two new websites for us: pubtokens.com and thepubandrestaurantgiftcard.com. They, and Curtis in particular, really understood what we were trying to achieve and they were very patient around our attention to detail and certainly went the extra mile.
