The last few weeks have seen Digital Storm attend two events and speak about Apprenticeships and the value that they bring to both an organisation as well as the individual. Apprenticeships have been changing a lot in recent years and they are a great way for young people to start their careers – being paid to learn whilst gaining valuable work experience. Digital Storm have certainly seen first hand the benefits of Apprenticeships to both to the employee and employer. Over the past 4 years, we have employed 5 Apprentices who have added real value to the team and organisation.

Curtis Williams, Marketing Manager at Digital Storm and ex-apprentice, along with Olivia Girling, Digital Marketing Apprentice and Digital Storms latest recruit, were both invited along to Parkstone Grammar School on the 4th of October 2019 to deliver a talk about Apprenticeships. With the aim to educate the students about why Apprenticeships are such a valuable, and overlooked option, the talk was delivered to current year 11 students, who will be choosing their post-16 career option later this academic year.

The students heard about the day-to-day role and responsibilities of a Marketing Apprentice from Olivia, and a first-hand account on what it’s like to begin a career post 16 through an apprenticeship. The students also got to hear about the progression available with a first-hand account of the last couple of years of Curtis’s career since he graduated from his 12-month Apprenticeship.

“I can’t promote Apprenticeships enough. In my opinion, what I have learnt and achieved over the last 4 years of my career is incomparable to any marketing University course. Not only have I learnt a lot but I have also progressed into a senior role within Digital Storm, have built a large network of local business connections and exposed myself to numerous experiences.” Curtis, Marketing Manager, Digital Storm

The following week, on the 8th of October 2019, Digital Storm was invited to Bournemouth University, to Young Chamber’s Careers in Business and Marketing event. Following the success of the Careers in Media Evening, Curtis and Olivia were pleased to attend and exhibit Digital Storm to year 9-13 students.

Guests were able to ask questions about what it’s like to work in a marketing agency and how to get into the industry. Alongside other speakers such as Bournemouth University and Bournemouth and Poole College, Curtis and Olivia then delivered a talk about Digital Storm, educating parents and students alike about marketing careers. They also spoke about Apprenticeships, and how they are a great route into the field.

As an advocate for Apprenticeships, Digital Storm is always excited to educate people about the range of benefits they offer and reduce the false stigma surrounding them.
